The recent one-day excursion to Montazah, Alexandria marked an inaugural for ESLA trip series, offering an interesting opportunity for students and young landscape architects to increase their awareness of the rich Egyptian landscape heritage and of the built environment components to create a successful destination.

Participants showed a high level of interest in exploring the diversity of landscapes in several locations within the park, from the preserved historic to the recently rehabilitated to the repurposed as well the introduced within this local heritage destination.

Students and young professionals expressed delight in learning about the unique history, prominent existing and new landscape components, learned how to assess the different landscape components with a critical eye that discriminates between successful and less successful ones to serve human comfort, enhance the place’s function and beauty as well as maintain an adequate level of sustainability in this recently renovated popular destination.

The experience fostered a deeper understanding of many landscape design concepts, different treatments to resolve challenges such as level differences, acccessibility, information on local stone use in different situations, as well as on lighting design for safety, security and arsthetics, especially in the vicinity of historic buildings. The discussion and questions also included urban design strategies in locating features to enhance user experience as well as planting solutions for coastal areas and the use of rare tree specimens in focal points to turn a place into a really memorable one.

Right before leaving our destination, we formed several groups to explore landscape components with room for improvement, sketched possible solutions for such challenges and presented our solutions to each other in a friendly gathering. It was a real pleasure to witness such an enthusiasm in this critical activity, despite the toll of heat and exhaustion towards the end of the day.

We then sealed the Alexandria experience with a hearty meal at a nearby local seafood restaurant and quickly hopped onto the bus to take us back to Cairo.

ESLA is looking forward to more of such successful events to promote landscape awareness, advance the industry in Egypt and enhance the ties between its members through such interactions. So, stay tuned!

شكّلت رحلة إسلا الحديثة للمنتزة بالإسكندرية انطلاقة لسلسلة الرحلات الدورية حيث أتاحت للطلاب ومهندسي اللاندسكيب الناشئين فرصةً قيّمةً لزيادة وعيهم بتراث اللاندسكيب المحلى الغني ومكونات التصميم الحضرى اللازمة لإنشاء وجهة سياحية ناجحة.

أظهر المشاركون اهتمامًا كبيرًا باستكشاف تنوع تصاميم اللاندسكيب داخل المنتزة ، بدءًا من المواقع التاريخية حديثة الترميم وصولًا إلى تلك التي أُعيد تأهيلها أو أُعيد توظيفها مؤخرا، بالإضافة إلى تلك المبانى و الخدمات التي أُضيفت إلى هذه الوجهة الشهيرة.

أعرب الطلاب والمهندسين الشباب عن سعادتهم بالتعرف على التاريخ الفريد، وأبرز مكونات اللاندسكيب الاصلية و المستحدثة، وتعلموا كيفية نقدها بشكل بناء، بما يخدم راحة المستخدم، ويعزز وظيفة المكان وجمالياته، ويحافظ على مستوى جيد من الاستدامة في هذه المعلم السياحى المحبوب و الذى تم تجديده مؤخرًا.

عززت هذه التجربة فهمًا أعمق للعديد من مفاهيم تصميم اللاندسكيب و التنسيق الحضرى، والمعالجات المختلفة لمواجهة تحديات الموقع من مثل اختلافات للمناسيب وسهولة الوصول كبار السن و ذوى الهمم لأى مكان، ومعلومات حول استخدام الأحجار المحلية في مختلف المواقف، بالإضافة إلى تصميم الإضاءة لأغراض السلامة والأمن وإبراز معالم المكان الجميلة خاصةً بالقرب من المباني التاريخية. كما شملت المناقشات والاستفسارات استراتيجيات التصميم الحضري لتحسين تجربة المستخدم، بالإضافة إلى تحديات زراعة الأشجار و التظليل في المناطق الساحلية، واستخدام أنواع الأشجار النادرة فى أماكن بعينها لتحويل زيارة المكان إلى خبرة لا تنسى.

قبل مغادرة وجهتنا مباشرةً، شكلنا عدة مجموعات لاستكشاف عناصر اللاندسكيب القابلة للتحسين، ورسمنا حلولًا ممكنة لهذه التحديات، وعرضنا حلولنا في تجمع ودي. كان من دواعي سرورنا أن نشهد هذا الحماس لهذه الفقرة بالرغم من شدة الحر والإرهاق في نهاية اليوم.

ثم اختتمنا تجربة الإسكندرية بتناول وجبة مأكولات بحرية و أسرعنا باستقلال الحافلة للعودة إلى القاهرة مساءا .

تتطلع الجمعية المصرية لمهندسى اللاندسكيب (إسلا) لتنظيم المزيد من هذه الرحلات و الفاعليات الناجحة لتعزيز الوعي باللاندسكيب المحلى، والنهوض بالصناعة في مصر، كذلك وتوطيد العلاقات بين أعضائه من خلال هذه الأنشطة التفاعلية. فتابعونا
